It was started by US Army GI Carl K Lindley of Danville, IL when he placed a signpost with the mileage to his hometown here. After completing his task, Lindley decided to add a sign to show the direction and distance to his home in Danville, Illinois. This unique tourist attraction began in 1942 as the Alaska Highway was being constructed. When the soldier was injured, his officer asked him to fix and erect directional signs along the Alaska Highway. The tradition was started by an Army of Engineers Private that was injured while working on the highway. A famous stop along the Alcan/Alaskan Highway where people from all over the world bring a sign to hang from their home town. Lindley when the Alaska Highway was still under construction in 1942. So to my surprise I find Signpost Forest in Watson Lake. Sign Post Forest was first started by Private Carl K.

Located along the Alaska Highway, the Sign Post Forest is a collection of over 80,000 signs from all over the world! This "forest" is full of tall wooden posts covered in signs in all shapes and colours.
